Dev Diary 1: Environments of Eltheria
What a week it’s been here at PixelPunk! We’ve officially migrated the entire Raveren project to Unreal Engine 5, unlocking a new level of visual fidelity, performance, and creative freedom.
But that’s just the beginning.
๐ฎ Combat & AI Overhaul
We’ve rebuilt our entire combat and AI systems from the ground up. Expect smarter enemies, tighter mechanics, and more dynamic encounters. The goal? To make every battle feel responsive, challenging, and deeply immersive.
๐งญ Menu Redesign
Our UI/UX team has reimagined the game’s menus to better reflect Raveren’s atmospheric tone. The new design is sleek, intuitive, and built for immersion—whether you’re navigating inventory, adjusting settings, or diving into lore.
๐ Worldbuilding in Motion
Meanwhile, our environments team has been hard at work shaping the many landscapes you’ll traverse. From eerie forests bathed in moonlight to crumbling ruins echoing with forgotten lore, every location is crafted to pull you deeper into the world.
This week’s focus? Atmosphere and lighting—powered by Unreal Engine 5’s Lumen system. Dynamic global illumination and reflections now breathe life into every corner, making environments feel reactive, moody, and immersive.
๐ Lighting the Way with Lumen
To showcase the impact of our lighting overhaul, here’s a quick comparison:
Before: Static lighting setups with baked shadows—atmospheric, but limited in responsiveness.
After: Fully dynamic lighting with Lumen, allowing real-time global illumination, soft shadows, and reactive reflections.
We’re pushing hard toward a polished, immersive experience—and this week was a huge leap forward. Stay tuned for more updates, sneak peeks, and behind-the-scenes insights as Raveren continues to evolve.
๐️ Sneak Peek: WIP Level — “Highreach”
As a final treat, here’s a glimpse at one of our work-in-progress levels, currently titled Highreach. Perched in the shadow of the Eltherian mountains, this village blends rugged terrain with layered architecture and atmospheric storytelling
